Home Banking Company HistoryIn late 1914, in a small town in rural West Tennessee, the Bank of Finger was on the verge of closing its doors. A group of local businessmen, realizing the importance of having a community bank applied to charter a new bank for the town. In January of 1915 the Bank of Finger officially closed, and on February 24, 1915 the businessmen’s bank charter request was approved. Shortly thereafter, on March 15, 1915, Home Banking Company officially opened its doors; marking the beginning of our long-term commitment to the communities we serve. Committed to sound banking policies and financially sound business principles, Home Banking Company grew and prospered. Working hand in hand with the people of McNairy County, the bank survived the Great Depression and remained stable as the New Deal years evolved into the war years. Home Banking Company remained stable both during Post War Prosperity from 1945-1973 and the inflation woes of the 1970s. During the 1960s and 70s McNairy County continued to prosper and began to move from an economy fueled primarily by agriculture to one powered by manufacturing jobs migrating from the north. Realizing most of the growth was occurring in the county seat of Selmer, a decision was made to open a branch there. Selmer was located on the main railroad and at the crossroads of major highways 45 and 64, which run North, South, East and West. The Selmer branch opened in early 1979 and proved to be a good decision. As Selmer and McNairy County grew, so did the bank. In 1983, the decision was made to move the headquarters from Finger to Selmer. The bank continued to prosper and by 1997 required a larger building, which it found at 795 E. Poplar Avenue. In 2001, the application to branch into Hardin County was approved and an expansion of the Savannah office was completed. In 2011, another expansion occurred; a branch on Harper Road in Corinth, Mississippi was built. Finally, in 2013, the bank expanded once again by acquiring a branch in Michie, TN. Through the years, Home Banking Company has held on to its roots of sound banking and business principles and its firm commitment to our customers.
